Your library

The Library and Information Service in North Ayrshire provides a wide range of services to support the needs of the community for learning, information and recreation. These are provided through a network of seventeen branch libraries, two mobile library services and this website.

North Ayrshire Libraries are part of the People's Network, a government initiative which connects all libraries to the Internet to enable everyone to have the opportunity to get online.

Your local library is a gateway to a wide range of information and opportunities including:

  • fast internet access for information and communication with individuals, organisations and public bodies
  • lifelong learning opportunities
  • an information portal which is customised and dedicated to the needs of the community
  • the online catalogue - accessible from every library and giving access to the holdings of all libraries in North Ayrshire.

Some services will be widely available over the internet but libraries are also committed to providing these facilities in a local, supportive environment with helpful staff who are dedicated to supporting the needs of the community in accessing all of these services.

Anyone living, working or studying in North Ayrshire can join and use any of the 17 branch libraries and two mobile libraries.

To join, bring two proofs of identity (one of which has your name and address) and complete a membership card at your nearest library. Adults can borrow up to 6 books for free as well as 4 CDs, 2 DVDs and 1 Playstation game each for a small charge. Members can also request items from the online catalogue to be delivered to their local library, again for a small charge. Please look at our Book Sp@ce and Teen Sp@ce sections for information for children and young people.
