TIP: Click on the Internet Explorer icon at the bottom of your screen to open another Explorer window. Type the following address (url) into the address bar: http://kids.yahoo.com/ and press return/enter.

Use the following tips to find information about World War II.

1. Yahooligans! doesn't require you to use capital letters.

Type the following in the search box and record the number of sites you found in the boxes below.

First search: WAR
Now try these: War
  war

 

2. Use phrases rather than single words.

Type in the words World War Two and click "search."  How many sites did you find?
This search has found all the sites containing the words World, War and Two

 

Type in the word world and click search. How many sites did you find?
This search has found all the sites containing the word world

 

Type in the word war and click search. How many sites did you find?
This search has found all the sites containing the word war

 

Type in the word two and click search. How many sites did you find?
This search has found all the sites containing the word two

 

Type in the phrase using inverted commas "World War Two" and click search. How many sites did you find?
This search has found all the sites containingthe phrase World War Two and because it is the most SPECIFIC, is, therefore the most useful search.
