Opening hours - Greenwood Teachers’ Centre Earlier this session it was brought to our attention that the opening hours do not always suit teaching staff whose schools are a considerable distance from the Centre. An opening hours survey was carried out in a selection of schools, but as this was inconclusive no changes will be made to the opening hours. However, it is our aim to provide the best possible service to staff and therefore we invite you to contact us if you would like to access the Centre out-with normal hours. It may be possible to provide access to resources during a twilight session or a Saturday if there is already a course booked in the Centre. However, you must contact us in advance so that we can consider staffing arrangements first. If you would like further information please contact Anne Noble (01294 219206)

A Curriculum for Excellence - Draft Experiences and Outcomes Curriculum for Excellence provides a framework within which excellent learning and teaching can take place - it is an integral part of the schools’ improvement agenda. The values, purposes and principles that lie at the heart of Curriculum for Excellence have resonated well with all who have reflected on them: teachers, education authority staff, employers, young people, parents, managers and college staff. Many schools have indicated that they are now ready to see more detail, which is what the accompanying draft outcomes and experiences provide. They offer a fresh opportunity to consider how staff, schools and authorities can focus on further improvements to their learning and teaching approaches. This is part of a wider context for change. During this school session the programme will see a number of developments, including:

Due to ongoing work, parking places are restricted at the present time and we understand that this is creating difficulties for visitors to Greenwood Teachers' Centre. However, we must ask you not to park on the access road, with particular care not to restrict access for local residents and for service vehicles. Work on a larger temporary car park is due to start soon. Our apologies for any inconvenience. If you wish to speak to a member of staff, please contact Anne Noble, Greenwood Centre Librarian.

This year (from April) has been designated a National Year of Reading. Some of you may have been around long enough to remember the last one, ten years ago. Despite there being a fairly disjointed approach in Scotland, North Ayrshire Council has decided to participate. There will be a variety of events across North Ayrshire Libraries and the branch libraries will have the following themes on display from April - Action Adventure, Travel/holidays, Rhythm and Rhyme, Children's, Chick/Bloke Lit, Local History, Horror and Crime, Sci-Fi, Biographies. |
|
Scottish Screen Archive will be visiting North Ayrshire in September to tie in with the National year of Reading theme of Local History. They have extensive footage of the local area, particularly in terms of WWII, The Edwardians, the 1930s and the 1960s. Please contact Melanie on 01294 212716 if you are interested in a visit.

| A quick stroll across Scotland Mapland Scotland is a giant walkover jigsaw map, made up of 167 pieces printed with topographical detail using Ordnance Survey information and is the size of a badminton court. | A study of current Scots language provision is to be undertaken to see how the profile and use of the language may be increased.
•Minister for Culture Linda Fabiani said:
"Scots is part of our identity and
our heritage as a nation. We must encourage confidence in the use of
Scots in all its forms and create opportunities for it to thrive. The
Scottish Government is committed to increasing awareness of the Scots
language, literature and song.
Schools have a particularly important
contribution to make to ensure as many young people as possible have the
opportunity to enjoy works of literature by Scots authors. Our national
languages have been suppressed and oppressed over the centuries but they
should be as valued as any other language spoken in the world. As a
signal of this government's support for the language, I have instructed
my officials to commission an audit of current provision and seek
recommendations on how we ensure Scots flourishes for future
generations."
Look out for information coming into your school soon.
