| WEST KILBRIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL ECO SCHOOL DEVELOPMENTS 2004-2005
Waste Minimisation · Used stamps, Christmas cards, old sterling and foreign currency are now being collected for various charities. · Local Community Centre and Library now collect used printer cartridges and mobile phones on our behalf. · P4-P7 children produced designs for canvas shopping bags. They were sold to wider community to promote our "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" campaign. Pupils raised £400. P1-P3 will work on a similar project alter this session.

School Grounds · Pupils helped to construct a Willow House in Spring 2004. This is an extension to the Quiet Garden and is used during break times by small groups. · An Activity Table was purchased for infant playground. · Pupils and staff participate in annual grounds day. This includes environmental activities and promotes active play. · P1 pupils set up a bird feeding station within the Quiet Garden as part of their environmental studies topic. Healthy Living · Tuck shop continues only to sell healthy snacks at morning interval. Catering staff promote a new healthy snack each month. Pupils monitor popularity and make regular suggestions through pupil surveys. · Eco-committee select and purchase playground equipment to encourage active playtimes. · P6 and P7 pupils monitor younger children at intervals. They teach younger children playground games and encourage active play. · After school sports club have been extended. They now include athletics, short tennis and badminton. North Ayrshire Leisure Service also provide a "Mini Kickers! After school club for younger children. · Pupils will be assisted by Tom Armstrong, Countryside Liaison Officer, to construct raised beds in which to grow organic vegetables. The vegetables will be harvested and used in tasting sessions.
