Using computers in North Ayrshire Libraries
Learning centres, in North Ayrshire libraries, offer 125 computers which have Windows XP and Office 2003 installed on them and additional software is available to use, on request, in library study centres. Card readers (allows you to quickly transfer photographs from a digital camera to a PC) and CD writers are available in most libraries (please ask a member of staff).
In addition to this, at your local library in North Ayrshire you can access:
- Grid Club - a subscription based website aimed at 5-12 year olds that you can use for free which includes games and acitivities for fun and for homework
- SCRAN - a database of copyright-free pictures to use for your homework and other activities
As well as accessing the information below from your local library, they can also be accessed from home using your library membership library card pin number.
To use a computer
You will need to have a library card and ask a member of staff to book a computer for you. You are allowed to use the computer an hour at a time and longer if no-one else has booked the computer. When you sit at the computer you will have to enter your library membership card number. It is free to use a computer but there is a small charge for printing. Remember to take frequent breaks when sitting at a screen for any length of time.
If you are new to using computers or would like to learn more then please have a look at our range of computer guides.
