Guide 4:
British Governments' handling of crises and public opinion

In the exam you are expected to:

  • Demonstrate your knowledge of the topic

  • Relate the sources to historical developments and events

  • Use your knowledge to set events in their wider historical context

To do this you need to understand the issues to do with Britain’s foreign policy towards Germany and the events leading up to war in 1939.

Therefore you need to know:

1. Britain’s foreign policy and approach to the problems facing her

2. The actions of the British Government in dealing with the crises

3. The British public opinion on the Government’s handling of the situation.

The guide is set out in 5 sections:

If your knowledge of the unit is weak or you don’t understand the issues relating to the British Government’s handling of the crises, this guide will help you.
